Depending on the time of year when you make the decision on getting rid of those pesky weeds and the number of weeds in your lawn, it will depend on our advice on how to reduce the weeds.
There are several factors that go into a healthy lawn, such as soil, growing conditions, available water, and food (fertilizer). These same factors go into growing weeds as well.
Our first advice will be taking a soil sample so we can get the soil healthy. Without healthy soil, you will not have a healthy lawn. It does take time and soil amenities to get healthy soil. This is not a one-time event, once your soil is healthy, we will need to keep it healthy. As the grass consumes nutrients, the soil is depleted of nutrients. If your soil nutrients become too low, weeds may invade your lawn because your grass will not cover your entire lawn. The sooner you start the better your lawn will look.
Growing conditions are different from grass to grass and weed to weed. Depending on if you are growing warm or cool grass lawns are when you want to kill off weeds. There is a weed for every season of the year. We do not recommend killing off weeds until your soil is ready to plant grass seeds. This will just give another weed a place to sprout up. If your lawn is mostly weeds and you kill those weeds, you may have soil erosion which could be costly in the long run.
Now we have healthy soil and good grass growing conditions, let's get rid of those weeds.
Our programs are designed to grow you a healthy lawn. We have a 6 and 8 application programs to fit your lawn’s needs to flourish. Timing is everything. Too early or too late on a weed control application will not be as effective. Having effective fertilization and weed control treatments and plans are crucial to having a healthy thick green lawn. We use pre-emergent and post-emergent along with fertilization so you will have a beautiful lawn.
Heathy lawn maintenance: In order to keep your lawn looking healthy, you will need to water your lawn. Without frequent watering, your lawn will thin out especially during the heat of the summer for cool grass. Another way of looking at it is, how long can you live without water? Your lawn can only live so long without water. Sometimes mother nature helps out and sometimes you need to do it yourself. Mowing your lawn will need to be done as well. Ensure you have sharp blades on your lawnmower. For cool grass, you do not want to mow it below 4 inches. For most warm grass you do not want to mow it below 2 ½ inches.
